Ammonia gas analysers

10 Июля 2025

Ammonia (NH3) is a colourless gas that is produced in small quantities in nature, but can also be produced by industrial enterprises. This substance is used in the manufacture of fertilisers, refrigeration and cleaning agents, and baking soda. As a weak volatile base, ammonia is used in many other spheres of activity. However, at excessive concentrations, the gas can be hazardous to humans and the environment due to its irritating and toxic properties. In addition, a mixture of ammonia and oxygen is explosive. Therefore, appropriate safety precautions must be followed when in contact with it.

At each enterprise that deals with ammonia, it is important to monitor the content of the substance in the air of working areas. For this purpose, modern devices are used, which are so called - ammonia gas analysers. The development and implementation of this equipment is one of the specialities of the company ‘Promanalit’. The manufacturer produces high-precision gas analysing equipment that meets international standards and environmental norms of Kazakhstan.

Assignment

This type of gas analysers is suitable for determining the concentration of ammonia in the air, as well as timely signalling and formation of relay signals to switch on external equipment when the normative values are exceeded. Thus, the equipment not only performs measurements and analyses, but is also an effective component of the emergency protection system at the enterprise.

Ammonia gas analysers are used for environmental monitoring in agriculture, particularly in poultry farms and dairy plants, as well as in chemical plants with stationary cold rooms. Monitoring and measuring ammonia content is necessary in the manufacture of nitric acid, fertilisers and pigments. In addition, the equipment is used in wells, tunnels and other underground facilities before personnel descend into them for further work. The ammonia gas analyser can be relevant for any other technological processes and production storage facilities where the concentration of the substance may exceed the permissible standard values.

Technical specifications

‘Promanalit’ produces multi-channel ammonia gas analysers capable of continuous monitoring. This equipment is characterised by the following parameters:

  • total number of channels per 1 indication unit - up to 16 units (any combinations are possible);
  • reading ranges - from 0 to 150 mg/m3;
  • gas concentration measurement parameters - from 20 to 120 mg/m3;
  • relative error of the obtained data - 20%;
  • indices at which the alarm is triggered - 20 and 120 mg/m3.

The instrument is equipped with a liquid crystal display to show current data. Each indicator is displayed digitally with an indication of the indicator channel. In addition, light and sound signals are provided for all channels, as well as communication with a computer via modern interfaces.

Ammonia gas analysers are equipped with relay and current outputs (0 to 5 mA or 4 to 20 mA) for connection of external devices (e.g. ventilation system). At the same time, the relay unit provides the possibility of programming the triggering conditions according to the required values. Also, if necessary, each device can be completed with communication units.

Gas analysing equipment from Promanalit is not afraid of extreme temperature changes. The devices are suitable for measuring indicators at temperature range -40 to +45 degrees, indicators are resistant to high levels of moisture and ultraviolet radiation. The vibration-resistant design makes the ammonia gas analyser also resistant to mechanical damage.

Principle of operation

The ammonia analyser has a rather simple operating principle based on the measurement of currents. For this purpose, it is equipped with sensing elements that react to air currents and identify the gas. The current generated by the sensors corresponds to the partial pressure of ammonia in the air. Depending on the data obtained, two types of alarms are possible - warning and alarm. Operator involvement is minimised when measuring and taking action. The gas analyser automatically transmits information on ammonia levels to connected devices.

Features

The main advantages of modern ammonia gas analysers include:

  1. Comprehensive approach - thanks to the use of switching units and integration with a personal computer, the device not only measures gas content, but also transmits data to the operator in a timely manner. Application of the analyser allows avoiding negative consequences of ammonia gas impact on the enterprise and the environment.
  2. Multifunctionality - with the help of this equipment it is possible to perform synchronous monitoring and analyse several indicators. Depending on the modification, the device is able to determine the concentration of up to 16 substances simultaneously.
  3. Efficiency - multi-channel ammonia gas analysers guarantee maximum measurement accuracy. The devices determine the concentration of the substance linearly - directly in the flow.
  4. High quality - the equipment is made of reliable materials that can withstand intensive loads and any climatic conditions.
  5. Mobility - portable gas analysers have small dimensions and do not need a socket. They can be used to measure and monitor ammonia both indoors and outdoors.

If you contact Promanalit, you will be able to choose the optimal ammonia gas analyser with a guarantee of quality maintenance. Each device is provided with a warranty period of not less than 12 months.
